Filippi

the Ancient Theatre

In this area you can admire the ruins of three paleochristian churches, traces of Egnatia Odos (the road that used to connect the east with the west), the Roman Forum, Acropolis, theatre, episcopacy and a number of other remarkable erections. At the museum that is located next to archaeological sites you may see remarkable samples of that glorious era. Its collection includes marble statues, lots of vessels dated since 4.500 B.C. and a fantastic series of coins that cover all chronological spectres since the colonisation of the area by the Thassians up to the metbyzantine era.

Cave of Aggiti’s reaver

The stone composition of mountain Falakro (limestone) and the closed basin of Kato Nevrokopi that is in the north contribute to the absorption of the waters from the rain and the torrents. On their way these waters create an oblong but not straight calcareous tube, which is the cavern. The morphological study of the cavern showed that along its main development axon expansions (rooms) and stenosis (siphons) have been formed as well as dιcor with stalactites, which is reduced from the entrance inwards, and some stalagmites due to the flow of waters that usually develop on fallen rocks. The bottom of the cavern is covered with mud hang up. A visitor today can be toured to the first 500m of this natural monument.

Mount Paggaio & Falakro

The history of this land is closely bound to Mt Paggeo existence. The veins of gold being at its depths made all inhabitants to treat it with respect and fight for its development. In nowadays at mountain’s most green slopes there are many Monasteries with continuous operation more than 1000 years. In parallel so this mountain as Mt Falakro locating just opposite it, have a great tourist development. Kavala

Beaches

Thassos
